LifeTrip AI ("we", "our", or "us") operates the LifeTrip mobile application and website (lifetrip.ai). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you register, we collect your full name, email address, and password (stored securely using bcrypt hashing).

Profile Information: Home city, home airport code, travel style preferences, and theme preference. All provided voluntarily.

Family Members: Names, relationship types, ages, and optional health notes or passport expiry dates you add for trip planning purposes.

Trip Data: Destinations, dates, packing lists, reminders, expenses, itineraries, and participants you create within the app.

Chat Messages: Conversations with our AI travel assistant are stored to provide continuity and improve recommendations.

Usage Data: We collect engagement metrics such as login streaks and feature usage to improve the app experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and personalize the trip planning experience
  • To generate AI-powered packing lists, reminders, and itineraries
  • To send notifications and reminders you have configured
  • To check visa requirements for your travel destinations
  • To track flight prices for routes you are monitoring
  • To power the AI travel assistant with context about your trips
  • To maintain your account and provide customer support

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure in the EU (Stockholm) region. We use:

  • PostgreSQL with encryption at rest for database storage
  • JWT tokens for secure authentication
  • HTTPS/TLS for all data in transit
  • Bcrypt hashing for passwords (never stored in plaintext)
  • Sensitive data (passport numbers, health notes) is treated as PII

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to provide app functionality:

  • Anthropic (Claude AI): Powers the AI travel assistant
  • Amadeus API: Flight search and price tracking
  • OpenAI API: AI-generated packing suggestions and descriptions
  • Google Places API: City and destination search autocomplete
  • OpenWeatherMap: Weather data for destinations
  • Expo / EAS: Mobile app build and push notification delivery

We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. We use soft deletion — when you delete trips or family members, they are marked as deleted but retained for 90 days before permanent removal. You may request full account deletion at any time by contacting us.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access all personal data we store about you
  • Correct inaccurate information in your profile
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your trip data
  • Opt out of non-essential notifications

7. Children's Privacy

LifeTrip is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Family member entries for children are created and managed by the parent/guardian account holder.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
